Lets Go

'Lets Go' is an iniative at Eltham Primary School to prepare children for school and to involve parents in their children's learning. Year 0 - 1 children are provided with a pack of carefully selected learning resources that they can take home and keep - books, readers, pencil, pad, maths games & information for parents. Parents attend two sessions at school and can take home the 'Lets Go' pack to use with their kids. It has proved so successful that it is being extended into other areas of the school with the Years 2 -3 'Up and Running' programme (& learning pack). If you want to know more about this programme contact Jocelyn. Eltham is unique also in that it follows the Te Whariki curriculum in it's NE class.

Interesting Rachel - if you want an ICT angle on this you should check out Elaine Newton's efellowship research at ULearn06 - our cluster teachers are off to a pre conference workshop she is doing in Auckland next week

“How do new entrant teachers use the ICT knowledge that children have when they start school.”

We wonder about how prepared secondary schools are to meet the learning needs of students who come from ICT rich intermediate/ primary schools, perhaps we should also wonder about the sort of ICT abilities our new entrants arrive with?

Great opportunity to hear e-fellow Elaine Newton talking about her research, without having to pay fares and accommodation for ULearn06

Fintan Kelly waipri@xtra.co.nz principal at Waikowhai Primary in Auckland has developed a strong link with his new entrant programme and a local kindergarden where preschoolers have remarkable rich ICT experiences and abilities. It would be worth contacting him about this initiative

Hi Arti yp we definately wonder (well actually we know really & wish for better) about how our kids are getting on when they get into Secondary School. I have thought a few times of getting down to kindy & seeing what is happening down there - i'm pretty sure they are up to something as i see a few of our own kindy teachers' photos in the > 'Foundations for Discovery' ECE ICT strategy document.
